Subject: [SCFLOREN] looking for living relatives
Date: Wed, 4 Jun 2008 09:51:53 EDT

Hello Fellow Researchers,

I am looking for any who is researching African American Gandy Family in
Darlington County SC. Here's what I have so far. I am looking for any living
relatives related to this line.

I am hoping to find anyone researching the Gandy Family in
Darlington/Florence South Carolina area. In the 1870 Census I am showing a Isaac (21) and
Irene (19) Gandy black living in Hamilton Township. In the 1880 census I am
showing Isaac and Irene with their children Henry, Lewinthal (possibly), John,
Ann, and baby son 5 months old living in Society Hill. Here's where I am having
a problem. Since the 1890 census was destroyed I can not prove whether or not
they had a son named Isaac. I believe Isaac and Irene where the parents of
my great grandfather Isaac Gandy age 18 who is listed in the 1900 census as a
border in Society Hill. By 1900 and 1910 census Isaac had a new wife Alice
and another set of children Paulina (possibly), Edith, Mabel, Leon (possibly),
Roland, Stewart, Robert, and couple of other children I can not make out
their names at this time. My great grandfather Isaac Gandy married Nancy Johnson
and they lived in Florence.

If anyone is researching this Gandy line from Society Hill area please let
me know. I have traced this family all the way to 1920. I do not have access to
the 1930 yet so I am not sure if they are still living in that census. This
may be the only link I have to finding out my Gandy line. I have hit a road
block on this family for many, many years I have not been able to obtain a
death certificate for my great grand father because he died in New Jersey and
they have not been able to find one for him. If any one can please help.
