To whom it may concern:
I am a direct descendant of Shadrack Simons of Georgetown, SC. His Bible is
now in the Fireproof building at Charleston with The South Carolina
Historical Society. I discovered it there last week, copied the geneology
papers, and transcribed them. The Bibile has not been officially transcribed
or catologued yet. I cannot send copies of actual pages as I haven't gotten
permission from the Society yet. But will be happy to send my transcription
to anyone connected with Shadrack, Brother Jesse, Sister Peninah Simons. The
Bible was donated last year by Jeffery Ellis of Charleston. Mr.Ellis's family
had had the bible many, many years in Calhoun Co. Ms. He donated the bible to
the society-not knowing he was connected to this family. The Bible was
published in 1778 but records family information back to Virginia and about
1720s. I will answer all who wants this information as soon as possible but
will be out of town for about a week. The Bible makes a very interesting
story for even people not interested in the family. Apparently it left SC in
1820 when John Joseph
Simons left. He is only son of Shadrach-other son mentioned in notices of
will must be step-son Henry Britton. John Joseph had a large family and
finally settled in
Calhoun County Ms. One of John Joseph's daughters married Grey Ellis and lived
all life in Calhoun Co.Mr Jeffery Ellis inherited the bible from his father
.Jeffery lives
and works in Charleston and bought the bible back to Charleston .It records
family information of three sons who fought in the American Revolution and
the story of their
father who was imprisioned by the British at age 60-70 and died in the
Garrison of Charleston in 1780.
Sincerely, Bobbie Simons Hinman
