I don't think the new Library has an opening date yet, they don't know how
long it will take to move everything, I was told.
I have been to the Spartanburg Library a few times, and they have the same
censuses and such there, but not the old newspaper microfilm for Greenville,
and I think they have the CSR records there also, and many of the same local
books that are in the Greenville Library. It's maybe a 25 minute drive from
Greenville, a very nice library with ample parking.
And the deeds and wills can be found at the County offices in Greenville,
so all is not lost for the month or so the library is closed if someone is
visiting to do research.
Also, the Greenville Historical Society has many old books and papers, and
many other interesting things--but their hours are limited.
Furman University has a Collection of historical documents also in its
library; including minutes of many of the churches in the area as well as
many of the same books found in the Greenville Library. Check the hours there
though as I believe they close Special Collections earlier than the rest of
the Library and may not be staffed on the weekends.
