This may be a long shot but you might check Henderson County NC. (borders
Greenville County SC) There was a A. M. Hawkins (born SC) listed in the
1850 census - his wife was Catherine. Only one child is listed - G. C. age
1. Caroline Bowman (age 8) was living in their household. A. M. was a
grocer by trade. He died in 1869 in Henderson County but his estate only
lists the widow.

Do the contents look familiar? I know he re-married after Mary died in 1910
and moved to Greenville where he died. On the death certificate it lists the
following - Father: Abe Hawkins, Mother: Kattie McKay.
