Hello Kelly,
Can't tell you about the boarding schools as I've never seen one on the
census records, but have seen the
Alms House (poor house); mental institutions & jails listed. In my part of
NC the Alms Houses sometimes
were homes to the mentally challenged & elderly as well as those with no
means of support.
