Here is a interesting Hightower/Mason connection in Greenville County, SC. that I just found in a 1998 post to this board from a Nina Sites . She was trying to find a record of the parents of James Howard who died in 1958 (PROBABLY MEANT 1858) in Greenville Co. (Glassy Mountain area). He left a widow believed to be Clarinda (no surname) and eleven children.
She further states:
"HIGHTOWER was in charge of saleing off the Howard estate which included 160 acres of land on the TERRY CREEK adjoining the Saluda river, and all household goods. Several neighbors attended the sale: JOHN MASON, who owned adjoining land. I think HIGHTOWER might have bought the land. Other neighbors listed: Andrew Quinlen,Moses Howard,James Howard bought the family bible,( maybe his son?) Alfred Need, Thomas Taylor, Peter Gosnell,Joesph Barton, and a Lindsey. These people bought the holdhold items. In 1860 the children were given their inheiritence. Names listed were:
Caroline,James,Joe,John,Ninevah,Levi,Andrew,Harriet,Columbus"
