" The coroner is charged with the investigation of all violent and suspicious
deaths occurring in the county. By law he assumes the duties of the office of
sheriff in case of the death or removal of that official. JOE WOOTEN at
present holds that position, having been elected in 1928 for a term of four
years to succeed John W. Parks".

I don't know if this helps at all but it is all I could find in my personal
library.
