Reading the post on the Butlers of Greenville and Rutherford Co, NC, I am
reminded of the cemetery near my house.
I first went to this cemetery through the woods probably 25 years ago, when
it was in pristine shape. At that time, I didn't realize the importance of
copying names.
It contained members of a Butler family and is in what is now Poplar Ridge
subdivision, Adams Mill Rd., Simpsonville. This is in the Hwy 14--Woodruff Rd.
area of Greenville Co, and the family would have lived on Gilder Creek.
I was by there a few months ago and there are maybe two tombstones leaning
up against trees. I'm not sure where the others are , because there were
several stones in good shape years ago.
Does anyone know of a Butler family that lived in the Gilder Creek area in
the 1800's? I remember one tombstone covered by leaves that looked as if it
were new, and was a child who had died abt. 1850. I can't even find that
tombstone there now.
I don't think this cemetery is in "Presence of the Past", I'm not sure about
the newer cemetery books of Greenville Co.
Susan
