Another Old Soldier at Rest
Major Niles Nesbitt, who is well know in the city and county, died in his
home in Taylors Monday morning of consumption. He was a native Spartanburg
county and 69 years of age. During the civil war he was major of the First
South Carolina Calvary regiment, commanded by Colonel Black, and served with
great bravery.
After the war he resided in this city, clerking for T. W. Davis, also for a
short time acting for Sheriff Gilreath. He was a member of the Baptist
church at his home, but was buried Tuesday at Woodruff's.
