Ok. TIme for me to jump back in the research on the Shelton family.
I descend from the Martin and Tabitha Shelton noted below. They eventually moved to Cobb Co GA between 1840 and 1850. Does anyone have Martin's parents?

I have seen it stated on message boards that Martin was the son of Joel. And, that Martin had at least one brother, John (who had a son Marshall).

In my notes I have the following:

John SHELTON-Greenville Co., SC
Apt. 7, file 441
Bill of sale of estate 2 Feb 1838
(Marshal SHELTON applied for Adm. 15 Jan 1838)
listed Martin SHELTON as receiving 1/7th of the estate 21 Oct 1839
Others were: Frances HOLCOMBE, Marshall SHELTON, Eleanor SHELTON, A. G. (Augustine ), Joel SHELTON, & John SHELTON.


William Shelton(s) of Haywood, land grant issued by purchase from Martin Shelton, in 1828. (Note: Was this the same William that married Mary "Polly" BAtes and Lydia Parker?)
Was he related to Martin and if so, how?

County, for $ 80 to Ezekiel Burns, 40 acres on head of Enoree River... January
20, 1838. Signed: Martin Shelton (X). Wit: THomas Benson, James Boling. Mrs
Tabetha Shelton relinquished Dower.

Property: Land Sale: Deed Records U, pg. 274-275: Martin Shelton of Greenville
District... for $189.14 to Eleanor Shelton, 165 1/2 acres on head branches of
Enoree River and North Fork Saluda, adj., William Bates, Ezekiel Burns, Widow
Bates, George Tubbs, Sim Saunders... August 2, 1843. Signed: Martin Shelton(X).
Wit: John W. Moore, Jr. Josiah K. Bates, Gaston Shelton. Tabitha Shelton
relinquished Dower.

I believe the John W Moore noted above is the brother to Tabitha Moore Shelton.

In the message postings I have seen Burns, Bates and Sheltons intermingle.

Just trying to figure everything out and get eveyone where they should be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
