Mr. Hill,

While you may already have answers to your questions on this topic, I thought I would send this anyway while waiting for my class to arrive.

I have information similar to yours regarding Mary Ann Canady. This information was given to me by my aunt who has an interest in genealogy. I don't have as much interest, but somehow your inquiry popped up today and what she gave me corresponds to some degree with your info.

The hard copy she gave me from Ancestry.com refers to Mary Ann Canady born Aug. 1, 1820 in Greenville, South Carolina. It is noted she is a Cherokee. She married (according to this source) Benjamin Absalom Wilson (born Oct. 30, 1812 in Gainsville, Hall Co., GA and died about 1871 in Randolph Co., AR) in Calhoun Co., GA Jan. 1, 1836.

There are 10 children listed from this marriage, 3 born in Alabama and 7 born in Randolph Co. Arkansas.

Three of the sons and one of the daughters seemed to have survived to adulthood: Ruben, born 1838 and died Dec. 10, 1880 in AR; Craven, born Feb. 2, 1846 and died Nov. 6 1930 in Texarkana, AR (he married Lavinia Delilah Johnson on Mrch 4, 1868); and Moses, born Feb. 25, 1849 and died Feb. 22, 1918.

Craven and Lavinia had 8 children. Their son William Ruben married Martha Elizabeth Meeks. My grandmother Vena Arvalee Wilson, nee Merchant, was the 5th of their 9 children.

While I'm not sure of the origin of most of this, I do have a photo copy of a handwritten letter (written 1978) from Lula and Bob Johnson in which she confirms some of the later information. She, I believe, is a cousin of my grandmother.

I also have a narrative of unknown origin regarding Benjamin Wilson, his move to Arkansas, and his fate during or shortly after the Civil War. This narrative was written by Michael L. Wilson of Randolph County, Arkansas.

In any case, you probably would prefer actual records rather than 3rd-hand accounts and are looking for antecedents rather than descendents. There seems to be very little regarding Mary Ann Canady. This actually makes sense considering her origins.

I would be glad to fax or scan what I have, if you think it would be helpful.

W. Merchant
