Dean,
My ggrandmother, Caroline, was the daughter of James & Clarinda (McDowell) Howard.
The best I can determine is that she was married to a W.P.Farmer - on 1870 census for Ivy Twnshp in NC and then to Goodson McDaniel Guthrie.
She & Goodson moved to TN and on some census are shown as Daniel. Their daughter, Lucy, was my grandmother with Daniel as her last name.
