This is a family I have researched. Thomas is the brother of Pleasant Burnett,
Sr. who married Anna Gentry. Pleasant and Anna are my ancestors.

There is an equity suit against the estate - Edgefield Co. Equity Suit # 19

Harman W. Bozeman and wife Nancy late Nancy Burnett and William Burnett by his
next friend sd Harman W. Bozeman.
On 6 September 1810 Harman married Nancy Bozeman late Nancy Burnett dau of
Thomas Burnett who died intestate in 1797 possessed of estate and crop then
unsold leaving children, each entitled to one seventh of two thirds of his
estate. On 1 January 1798 widow Mary Burnett mother of Nancy and William, took
out ltrs/admn on estate of her decd. husband with William Quarles and David
Quarles securities. She made no returns;
October 1800 after death of Mary Burnett, who had married Ephraim Ferrel,
William Quarles and James Quarles (the latter has since died) took out
ltrs/admn on estate of Thomas Burnett; took possession of undivided property of
Mary Ferrel in estate of her decd husband and intestate Thomas Burnett; which
oratrix, orator, and other five children are entitled to. Mary Ferrell having
also died intestate on 24 November 1800, sd William Quarles admr sold personal
property for $4560.42. Orator and Oratrix charge that their decd father's
estate being well adapted to culture of Tobacco and cotton ought to have
produced considerable sum by annual rent of same from 1800
when William Quarles took possession to present. Ask equitable distribution of
personal property in hands of William Quarles together with rents.

Report of Commr Whit Brooks. Accounts 24 Novr 1800 to June 1817.
Wm Quarles rec'd since settlement with Jas Quarles the guardian of Nancy
Burnett now Nancy Bozeman money which could not have been embraced in that
settlement. Ask Writ of Partition to lay off to William Burnett his part of
real estate. (no date) Appraisers John Roper, Benj Roper.

Five-page statement of William Quarles sworn July 1816. /s/ William Quarles
with amendment 4 February 1817 /s/William Quarles. (Cannot be read on
microfilm because of discoloration and bleeding of ink)



*Children can be found from several deed books in reference to the estate
administration of their parents.

Book 33, p. 190 Harmon W. Bozeman to James Quarles, Receipt, Recd 2 October
1810 from James Quarles guardian of *Nancy Burnett his note of hand for Eight
hundred seventy five Dollars which when paid will be in full of her legacy of
estate of Thomas Burnett and Mary Ferrel; /s/ Harmon W. Bozeman. Rec 7 October
1816.

Book 30, p. 363 Harmon W. Bozeman and his wife Nancy, Robert Carson and
wife Mary, William Hall and wife Elizabeth to William Quarles, Deed of
Conveyance, 15 January 1811, whereas Thomas Burnett late of Edgefield District
was possessed of land lying on Chaveses Creek, did on or about 15 October 1796
depart this life intestate leaving sd *Nancy Bozeman, *Mary Carson and
*Elizabeth Hall his heirs at law, each entitled to one undivided share; William
Quarles hath contracted with sd Harmon W. Bozeman, Robert Carson and William
Hall in right of their wives to purchase their interests in sd plantation for
sums following. Harmon W. Bozeman for Three hundred thirty Dollars, Robert
Carson for Two hundred thirty seven Dollars, William Hall for Two hundred
Dollars. Land on both sides of Chaveses Creek, 435 acres. Wit Hillary M.
Collier, Samuel Quarles. /s/ Harmon W. Bozeman, /s/ Nancy Bozeman, /s/ Robert
Carson, /s/ Mary (X) Carson, /s/ Wm. Hall, /s/ Elizabeth (X) Hall. Justice
Thomas Key certifies relinquishment of dower rights by Nancy Bozeman, Mary
Carson, and Elizabeth Hall. 24 January 1811, /s/ Nancy Bozeman, /s/ Elizabeth
(X) Hall, /s/ Mary (X) Carson. Proven 4 March 1811 by Samuel Quarles; Thomas
key J.Q. Rec 1 July 1811.

Book 30, p. 435 Thomas Burnett of Abbeville District & Jeremiah Burnett of
Abbeville District to William Quarles, Deed of Conveyance, 13 February 1811,
Thomas Burnett during his life possessed an absolute estate on both sides of
Chaverses Creek containing 435 acres; about 15 October 1796 died intestate
leaving sd *Thomas Burnett and *Jeremiah two of his legal heirs at law,
entitled to one undivided share in sd tract of land each one seventh part.
William Quarles hath contracted with them for sums following: Thomas Burnett
for Two hundred fifty Dollars; Jeremiah Burnett for Three hundred Dollars. Wit
Hillary Collier, Samuel Quarles. /s/ Thos Burnett, /s/ Jeremiah Burnett.
Proven 4 March 1811 by Samuel Quarles; Thomas Key J.Q. Justice Thomas Key
certifies relinquishment of dower rights by Martha Burnett wife of Jeremiah
Burnett, 10 August 1811; /s/ Martha Burnett. Rec 5 November 1811.
