Subject: 1900 SALUDA CO, SC - Dean census records
Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 14:45:23 -0500

I am sending some of the info. that I have gotten from census (actual page
images from Heritage Quest) along with other info from death cert. and or cem.
records.

I have a township map of SC and the areas mentioned might help to place them in
families:

Saluda Co, SC townships mentioned in the census records:

4th township - the area around the city of Saluda.

5th towhship - bordered by the Newberry and Greenwood Co. lines in the upper
corner of Saluda Co., south of Chappels, Newberry Co. Borders the Saluda Co,
section so might be from the William Dean m. Ruth of Saluda River records.

6th township - north western portion running along the Edgefield and Greenwood
Co, lines, that seems to include the Good Hope area. Nearest to the area where
the Old Dean Family Cem. was located.

From my list of children, from John Buzhardt and from Patrick Dean
<> citing "papers of my father and grandmother including Bible
records, cemetery records and hand written family notes that my grandmother had
in her personal papers when she died."

His list did not include an Ellen Dean. He has the Allendine as Allen Clark
Dean, son. Looks like they are twins.

There are two other children, Walter Edward Dean and Maggie Dean who died
before this 1900 census.

Bettie Dean is a Lodger, b. 1822, age 78 widow, 0 children/ 0 living,
Living in the HH with John Halbuck & wife Elmira

I created a file, copied it to word, then ran a find for all Elizabeths, Betty,
Bettie. I did not find one born 1822. Don;t know who she is.

1900 Saluda Co, SC, 4th township, p. 111A
Indexed as "Dickens" Dean, but it looks like The D has a tail in the original,
so is possible one of the Pickens Deans.
hh#239/239
Pickens Dean, head 6/1820, 79, md 59 or 54 yrs, SC SC SC Farmer, Rents farm.
Elizabeth Dean, wife, 9/1826, 73m md same, & children, 4 living, SC SC SC

I have some conflicts in this info., possibly from a transcription of a cem.
record or from interpretation of census records. I have him with two wives,
one Mary and 2nd Elizabeth. But that md 54 or 59 years for both of them now
makes me doubt the info. It was sent to me by others, and I have not worked on
it to verify it yet. That is what I am doing now with death cert and census
records. Does anyone have info. on this Samuel Pickens Dean. b. 1820 and his
wife/wives with sources to help me sort out the questions in my mind raised by
this census record?
