Hi All,

I have copied the comments below from another letter that I sent out and
thought it may be of interest to some. Please English Majors please
don't be to hard on this retired Foundry man.

I was asked of my research in the Schleswig Holstein area:

You may find them under Denmark, Germany, or Prussia. Usually the first
place I look is under the Town and Parish Brouse of the Library Catalog
File for LDS FHC. Then you can pick out the location that you want.
Select it and then follow instructions to go to the screen that shows
the records that are available for that area. If you don't find the
actual town or Parish, then look for a near by town.

When you see the word "Stat" it refers to the general area of the Town
itself. The "kr" for exanple kr Niebull means that it is near the city
of Niebull. I am not sure about the "AMT", but I believe that it is for
the area around a certain town.

Since you have worked with Census records of this area you probably
already know that many of them are in reference to early court District
I believe. Anyway some of these were: Eiderstedt Landschaft; Koog
Distrikt; Fehmarn Lanschaft; Husby Herred (Harde);
Nie Harde; Uggel Harde; Weis Harde; Kar Harde; and Bocking Harde.
Knowing the location of these places will help pinpoint where your
ancestors were located at that time.

I have not found the emphases on farms that you will find in the Norway
and Sweden area. A few farms are identified, but mostly the small
villiages. In the Parish Records there will somtimes give farm names.
Maybe someone else can give us some insight on how to identify these
farm names.

Luck to all,
Don
