Dear Penny Airman,
I was so happy to see your query on the Schleswig-Holstein List.... My
family's names are MEYER< THOMSEN< OLESEN< etc...Mostly all settling
around the South Central Nebraska area...
Anyway, your family name is what I am happy to see... You must be
familiar with the very gemuetlich (German for friendly, warm, heartening,
etc.) paintings of PAUL DETLEFSEN ... I'm not sure when they were
done... and I haven't been able to find out ANYTHING about him as a
painter... I hope you know the paintings of which I am speaking...
Paul Detlefsen uses very warm rich vibrant colors to create life filled
pictures of
America, its people, and landscape... to me, somewhat of a Danish Norman
Rockwell!!
Please write back and tell me if you know where he is from, what time
period the paintings were made (late l800's, early l900's??) ... if there
are any books out there on him, or any galleries where I might be able to
see all of his paintings ....
Many Greetings
Karla Kirsten Tomsen Shahan
(yes I married an Irishman!! :)
