Hello Fellow S-H Rooters:
Would someone please take the time to advise me on this research
effort. Our G'father JOHANNES MARCUS(?) LOHMANN was born 29 March, 1862,
in Westermoor S-H, (east of Itzehoe), and emigrated alone to America,
October, 1882, leaving his parents and siblings in Schleswig-Holstein.
Young Johannes was trained in the trade of architecture/building. His
father was HINRICH LOHMANN and his mother was ANNA SOLTWEDEL (first
marriage to HAACKER). There is evidence this Lohmann family may have
moved from Westermoor to Borsfleth, about 1870.
Our Johannes had at least one brother Hinrich Lohmann, born 1869; and
one sister, Margarethe Lohmann, born 1865. Margarethe married JACOB
MOHR. Both of these siblings, Margarethe and Hinrich Lohmann, resided
and may have died in the Borsfleth area; perhaps their parents, as well.
I need to know what resources to contact for records of this family,
in both WESTERMOOR and in BORSFLETH---Civil Records, Parish Records,
Guild Records, Burial Records, etc. I know that church records exist
for the Westermoor parish (Lutheran), but the report I received from a
simple mail inquiry bears some major discrepancies that need to be
resolved by a closer, personal inspection of the parish book. I will
explain in more detail, if someone is willing to accept payment to
review these parish records for clarification and a thorough search of
all records for this parish---births, marriages, deaths, funerals,
burials.
Anyone's advice, regarding serious research in either of these two
areas, would be most appreciated. I was told that the Westermoor parish
records for this LOHMANN family seem to end with 1869, indicating a
family move. Is it true that a family had to "register" their intent to
relocate in that time period? If so, where are those records archived?
