Can you solve the following mystery or provide clues?

Martin Nicolaj Christian Rahf was born 26 Feb 1890 at 3:30am
Norderstrasse 12, Flensburg.
His sister, our mother, told us he died at the age of 18.
The Standesamt searched 1908 - 1912 but could find no record of his
death.
How could he just disappear? What could have happened to him? He was
barely an adult.
Any guesses? Clues? Facts would be even better!
