Hans Peter Voss informed us of his index to Schleswig-Holstein family
histories contained in the first 50 volumes of Deutsches
Familienarchiv. He has a link to that list in German and is working on
an English translation.

I contacted the people at the Immigrant Genealogical Society since they
have all 100 volumes of this set of books. They have given me the
permission and instructions for interested parties to order photocopies
of the pages interesting them.

If you will refer to Mr. Voss' list at
http://www.Genealogy-SH.de/D/fam-b.htm
find your surname, and note the Volume # (Band) and page #s (Seite), and
send that information (plus the name Deutsches Fanilienarchiv) to:

Immigrant Genealogical Society
PO Box 7369
Burbank, CA 91510-7369

They request these very modest charges for the copying and mailing:

Up to 6 pages........................$2.00 including postage
6 to 12 pages.........................$3.00 " "
up to 18 pages.......................$4.00 " "
up to 24 pages.......................$5.00 " "
add $1.00 per each additional 6 pages.

If the family history is extremely long or encompasses (as it does in a
few instances) the entire volume, the Society recommends that you order
the entire volume from the publisher: Verlag Degener & Co., Postfach
1360, D-91403 Neustadt/Aisch, Germany. Mailing extremely large packets
is difficult and there might be a problem of copyright infringement.

For people living in, or visiting, Southern California, you can visit
the Society's library and make your own searches and copies. They are
located at 1310 West Magnolia, Burbank. They are open Wednesday noon to
5 pm, Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday noon to 5 pm.

I hope this information helps some of you. If you wish to wait for Mr.
Voss' link to be in English, perhaps you will feel more comfortable with
what these journals has to offer, but if you feel confident that the
list in German is understandable to you, go ahead and order your
photocopies.

Herr Voss used the following descriptions or his columns:
Surname
Description*
No. of the book (Band)
Page(s) in that book (Seite)

*Stammfolge is Descendent-tree, Ahnenliste is Ancestor-tree.
