NORFOLK...Viola W. Westmoreland, 85, of the 2500 block of Heutte Drive, died
May 10, 1999, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mrs. Westmoreland was a native of Conway, S.C. and a resident of Norfolk
for most of her life. She was the widow of Clarence O. Westmoreland. She
was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Norfolk.
Mrs. Westmoreland retired after 30 years from the U.S. Naval Exchange,
NOB, as a department manager. She was a longtime member of the Fleet Reserve
Association. She was a loving, caring woman who gave of herself unselfishly
to her family and friends.
Survivors include her sisters, Lillian Duke of McClellansville, SC, and
Margaret Thompson of Myrtle Beach, SC; her brothers, John Woodard, Sr. of
Norfolk, Douglas Woodard of High Point, NC, Joe Woodard of Columbia, SC; and
numerous nieces and nephews including John Woodard, Jr. of Norfolk, whom she
raised as her own son, and Ronnie and Joann Woodard of Atlanta, in whose
early lives she played a significant part.
A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at H.D. Oliver
Funeral Apts., Norfolk, by the Rev. Robert DeWitt. Burial will be at
Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral
home today from 7 to 8 pm.
