Hello COUSIN Anderson Folks! ...{:).
Our brick wall is David Anderson, Sr. who is listed as a signer of THE
PETITION TO ESTABLISH HORRY COUNTY, South Carolina in 1801.
His 2000 acres+ has been divided up and now "some" is owned by the BRATCHER
family [James Bratcher married Rebeccah ? ANDERSON after 1850, she was the
former wife of David ANDERSON, Jr. and she is listed in the 1850 Horry
County, SC Census and Agriculture Census as still owning the remaining
plantation land of approximately 1000-1500 acres] who still lives on
BRATCHER ROAD, off of "Old Reaves Ferry Road" outside of Conway, SC.
We believe that possibly his father may have been a William ANDERSON from
"somewhere?".
Any body out there in ANDERSON Land have a clue?
THANKS!
Dan Fairfax

Hurston,
Hello. I am trying to research and find a Jonathan Anderson's family. He
was listed as being born in SC. Where, I don't know. Who his family is, I
don't know. So, I have collected "possibilites" from here and about. One
such story I gathered from the GeneologyLibrary on Geneology.com. You may
find it listed by the "Colbert Anderson" search if you'd like. But,
here's what I copied out of a scanned book...which I didn't even get the
name of at the time, sorry.
Anderson vs. Demoss - O.S. 1; N.S. 1 - In 1734 Thos. Anderson bought from
Alex. Ross & Morgan Bryan 1,000 acres
west of Opeckon but Fairfax entered caveat. Thomas Anderson died after
having deeded 6th March, 1774-5, 600 acres to Colbert Anderson, one of his
sons, and devised 300 acres to James Anderson, his eldest son. Colbert
settled on his tract and lived there until his death, 17--, intestate,
leaving orator Colbert, eldest son, an infact of tender years. After
Colbert's death his widow married Francis Lilburn who obtained a patent in
his own name & then sold out in small parcels to persons who afterwards
relinquished to Colbert, Jr., except Rebecca Demoss, who with her children
Sarah, Ann, the widow of Charles who is dead without issue, William, Thomas,
Lewis, Catherine & Throckmorton Demoss are in possession of 80 acres. Writ
dated 28th December, 1792. Thomas Anderson came in 1734 from New York.
Copy of Thomas Anderson's will 11th December 1747. Blacksmith. Wife Jane,
son James, son Colbert to Patrick Riley (he having received his proportion
already) daughter Mary Yeats to William Mitchell. Mary Yeats is a widow -
proved 2nd March, 1747-8. Thos. Anderson of Colleton Co., SC, appoints
Colbert Anderson of Frederick Co., VA, Power of Att'y - dated Charleston
28th June, 1771. Will of James Anderson, Senr., of Colleton Co., SC, dated
2nd May, 1770. Eldest son Thomas, 2nd son John, 3rd son James, 4th son
Colbert, daughter Ann Mount, 5th son William, 6th son Stephen.
Now, here's more about the Jonathan Anderson that I seek. I am his 3rd
ggranddaughter. He is the Jonathan Anderson that moves to Tattnall Co., GA
about 1820-30. Has 2 sons, Edward and Charles by wife Rebecca
Grubbs-Standley. My own grandfather did much research on our family tree
starting in the 60's and now we have all his notes and are going out on the
computer to find our Jonathan roots. My grandfather's name is James Miller
Anderson, Sr.. We have been published in his book, "This is Our Life" which
only some few have. With the above, I am holding on to any connections I
find which happen to have a John Anderson listed. Jonathan was supposedly
born in 1810...but no birth cert. record. Grandfathers notes have him born
as early as 1802...and others have it as 1808. It is still a mystery. I
did see more on Colbert's will in the library in a book called, "A
Collection of Upper South Carolina Genealogical and Family Records" Vol. I.
Here's that will.
Colbert Anderson. Will of Colbert Anderson, Probate Judge Office,
Ninety Six Dist., Abbeville, SC. I Colbert Anderson being in perfect health
and memory etc, etc. 1.) Pay all just debts. 2.) I give to my son James
Anderson one hundred and fifty acres of my present dwelling plantation. 3.)
I give unto son John Anderson one half of a tract of land willed to my self
and my brother James Anderson by my brother Stephen Anderson containing
three hundred and fifty acres on London Wilson Creek. 4.) I give to my
daughter Jane Anderson two hundred acres on half way swamp and one hundred
acres on Charlestown road. 5.) I give to Colbert Anderson my present
dwelling plantation containing one hundred acres. Lastly, I give to my well
beloved wife one negro named Jane and all my stock, cattle, bonds, notes and
account books. It is my desire and will that my wife Mary Anderson live on
my present dwelling place and cultivate same for her support and my
children. Make wife Mary and son James Anderson joint executors. Dated 20
Nov. 1782. Wit: William X Mathis, Molley X Mathis. Elisabeth X McCrae.
Signed: Colbert Anderson. (This will is in very bad shape and torn and
will be impossible to read in a few years.)
Well, if you're like me, the Anderson's repeated first names get so
confusing. I think that's why I come from a family of meticulous people.
Well, good luck, and hope this helps! If you have anything on Jonathan,
please let me know. -Laura

who moved on to Tennessee about 1790 timeframe. First, he moved to Sumner
Co, TN and then when it was opened to settlement he moved on to Giles Co, TN
(circa 1810). There are conflicting references in our family documents
naming a James Anderson as father and a Matthew Anderson as father. We have
on some rather weak information that he should have come from VA, but other
indications would place him in the Upper Country of SC...or maybe even
Colleton Co, SC which was very large during this time period.
