MULLINS - Gertrude Harrelson Jones, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, at Marion County Medical Center after an illness.

She was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Charles Hugh and Maggie Norton Harrelson. She was the widow of Jessie Thomas "J.T." Jones.

She retired from Mullins United Way, where she received two awards for community service. She was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Stith Sunday school class and the Celia Perrit circle.

Survivors include her children, Susan Jones of Johns Island, Charles Jones of Durham, N.C., and Mike Jones of Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michelle Carleton and Karen Jones, both of Panama City, and Nickolas Jones of Durham; two great grandchildren, Jessie and Jacob Carleton; two sisters, Betty Harrelson and Ina Lewis, both of Mullins; and a brother-in-law, Caliph Lewis of Mullins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Louis Harrelson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

The funeral will be will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Macedonia United Methodist Church Prayer Chapel. The Rev. Paul Frey and Lewis McCormick will officiate. Burial will be in Millers United Methodist Church Cemetery.
