BASS

HILLSBOROUGH - Frances "Merlyn" Holt Bass, resident of Hillsborough, NC,
born May 23, 1925, in Loris, SC, passed on to Heaven November 11, 2002 at
Durham Regional Hospital, Durham, NC. Merlyn was the beloved daughter of
Walter E. Holt and Annie Maybelle Hardee Holt, and her biological parents
Homer Bert Todd and Effie tompkins Todd Milliken.
Merlyn was a faithful member of Maple Baptist Church, during her residence
in Conway, SC. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, sharing her
many talents with the Brownies and Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts of America,
the Hillandale School Nursing Staff and PTA. She is survived by her husband
of sixty-two years, Huger Richardson Bass Sr. of Hillsborough,NC; three
daughters, Kathryn Bass-Ray and family of Bahama, Lynda Lee Bass Cotton and
family of Lake Mayo, NC, and Gloria Jean Bass Fortune and family of
Hillsborough, NC; one son, Huger Richardson Bass II of Charlotte, NC; five
grandsons, Donald Tomlinson Fortune and wife Crystal Loving Fortune of E.
Lansing Michigan, Barry Stewart Cotton Jr. and wife Jamie Eakes Cotton of
Timberlake, NC, Huger Richardson Bass III of Akron, Ohio, Jonathan Berkley
Bass of Durham, NC, and Gregory Eugene Loper and wife Wendy Lancaster Loper
of Phoenix, AZ; one great-granddaughter, Heather Lynn Fortune of Henderson,
NC; three great-grandsons, Justin Dale Cotton of Timberlake, NC, and Jakob
Lancaster Loper and Zachary Dustin Loper of Phoenix AZ.; four sisters,
Annie Grace Holt Johnson of Loris, SC, Francis Jean Todd Porter of Siler
City, NC, Betty Ann Todd Benton of Ash, NC, and Bertie Fay Todd King of
Ash, NC; three brothers, Clarence B. Todd of Ash, NC, Benny Raleigh Todd of
Chadburn, NC, and Clyde Todd of Chadburn, NC; three sisters-in-law,
Gertrude Bass Long and husband Chester Long of Wilcox, AZ, Ruby Lee Bass
Myles of Wilmington, NC and Carolyn Bass Mills of Loris, SC; and many
beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be
held at Sweet Home Baptist Church, 2430 Hwy. #9 W., Longs, SC 29568, on
Saturday, November 16, 2002, at 3 PM by Rev. Scott Seckman, followed by
graveside blessings at Cushion Swamp-Boyd Cemetery, Loris, SC.
The family requests no flowers. Donations can be made to the Cushion Swamp
Cemetery Fund by mail to Carolyn Mills, 490 Circle M Road, Longs, SC 29568.

Arrangements are by Hudson Funeral Home.
