Joseph Cranston Hucks, 82 died Monday September 20, 2010 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born April 14, 1928, a native of Horry County, beloved son of the late Rev. J.A. Hucks, Sr. and Hattie Jordan Hucks. His son, Joseph Charles Hucks, a sister, Evelyn Churchill, three brothers, Jennings Hucks, Bobby Joe Hucks and Paul David Hucks, all predeceased him. Mr. Hucks was an independent general contractor and real estate developer. He was a pioneer in the early development of Myrtle Beach. He was a man that worked behind the scenes and preferred to wait for his rewards as accolades in Heaven. He enjoyed humor, music, playing his spoons, genealogy and spending time with his family. He was loved greatly by his family and friends and helped them all that he could. All will miss his wisdom and presence. He was a member of Trinity Mission Church in Conway, SC. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca P. Hucks and their children, Christie Hucks and Martha Kaye Hucks; five children from his first marriage, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Hucks, Thomas Cranston Hucks, Lee Ann Hucks, Sandra Rowan and husband, Rick and Cindy Evans and husband, Tommy; two brothers, Mack Hucks and James Hucks, Jr. both of Conway, SC; six sisters, Sevelda Atkinson and husband, Lester, Shirley Miller and husband, James, Martha Payne, Rachel Allen and husband, Johnny, Debbie Dawsey all of Conway, SC and Mary Cranston and husband, Jim of Garden City, SC; a brother-in-law, Joe Churchill; a sister-in-law, Rudene J. Hucks; ten grandchildren, Tina Zimmerman, Stephanie Bryant, Mollie Garcia, Lee David Bryant, II, Joseph Christopher Hucks, Kelsea Rowan, Christian Evans, Chapell Evans, Thompson Evans and Pebbles Hucks and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Zimmerman, Christopher Amend, Madison Bryant, Memo Lopez, Carlos Lopez, Abby Zimmerman and Carter Zimmerman. The family will receive friends on Wednesday September 22, 2010 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, SC from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be 1PM Thursday September 23, 2010 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Allen presiding. Burial will follow the service at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery in Myrtle Beach.
