Message Board Post:

I visited St. David's Lutheran Church cemetery in West Columbia, Lexington Co., SC. I only documented surnames that I was interested in, however, I'm willing to go back and do look-ups. Here's a partial list of gravestones:

Nettie C. Lowman Quattlebaum (11-12-1886/12-30-1962)
Thomas Rueben Quattlebaum (11-2-1893/1-14-1974)
Millard F. Quattlebaum (US Army WWII 9-11-1919/10-20-1993)
Doris Kelly Quattlebaum ("Always In Our Hearts" 8-17-1924/5-29-1993)

Simon H. Corley 1-12-1905/8-24-1983)
Mamie B.

Gladys Sharpe Caughman (7-1-1919/9-2-1995)
Henry Morgan Caughman (4-19-1914/8-29-1985)

John Franklin Roland (12-11-1870/12-25-1963)
Thelma E. Huskey ("Dau. of Mr. & Mrs. J.F. Roland" 11-15-1900/12-21-1954)

James Leland O'Shields (12-3-1960/9-24-1972)

Thomas W. Gunter (9-23-1859/12-15-1939)
Martha Alliefair Gunter (12-3-1877/6-12-1933)
Lizzie L.M. Gunter (8-11-1882/4-8-1971)

Samuel Steele (4-20-1855/3-26-1915)
Nancy Joanna Roof Steele (3-8-1858/6-16-1907)
NOTE: Their family plot (just the two of them) is surrounded by a short black rought iron fence. Their tall stones are shaped like the Washington Monument. Her grave is unusual, as it looks like she may have been buried on TOP of the ground. The mound is covered in seashells that are neatly arranged. Looks like asphalt has been added as mortar for the shells.

Levi Gunter (1-25-1817/11-9-1887)
Dorothy (wife) (5-26-1826/5-3-1913
Charlie E. (son) (2-21-1856/11-9-1892

Martha A. Roland ("wife of SF Roland" 8-25-1854/6-28-1908)
Henry Lee ("son of SF and MA Roling" 10-9-1879/6-10-1901)
W.H. Roland (this is William Henry Roland) (1-27-1850/2-1-1924)
Ann Hite Roland (William's wife)(10-16-1841/3-4-1929)
Louanna (daughter)(4-22-1867/9-28-1878)
Joseph W. Roland (son) (5-4-1881/6-10-1900)
Mary Jane (daughter)(7-15-1874/9-28-1900)

There's a few Frye stones in the yard as well, but I was pressed for time. I haven't made it to Red Bank United Methodist Church. When I do, I will post the stones I have been looking for. Again - if you'd like for me to look up stones in either of these churchyards, please let me know.

-Dana
