Mavis has raised questions about the identity of Emanuel Jackson, and I too
would very much like to know who he was.
At one time I wondered if he was the son of William R. and Eleanor Hayes
Jackson. He is mentioned in the 1828 estate settlement of William R. along
with John T. Jackson, John M. Jackson, Tobias Jackson, W. Jackson, E. M.
Jackson, Charlotte Jackson, Washington Jackson, Warren Jackson, and Edward
M. Jackson I had wondered if Tobias, Washington, and Emanuel might have
been sons of William R. and Eleanor since they are supposed to have had
nine children and I know names of only four. However, this might be
unlikely if Emanuel was born ca. 1807-1808 and Eleanor (the possible
mother) was born in 1795. BTW, T. E. Hargrove, who was a witness in the
listing from Mavis, was the grandson of William R. and Eleanor.
However, now I think the answer could lie in finding out more about the
various Laban Jacksons and who they were. The 1825 estate settlement of
Nathan Tart mentions a Laban Jackson and also a purchaser Laban Jackson,
Jr. If there was a Laban old enough in 1825 to have one of the younger
generation purchasing at that time, that Laban (Sr.) could have been old
enough to have had a son the age of Emanuel. That could explain why Emanuel
named one of his own sons Laban. Unfortunately I don't really know where
Laban Sr or Laban Jr fit in to the overall Jackson family.
Emanuel shows up in the 1841 estate settlement of George Clark--as does
John T. Jackson, who is mentioned as having land bordering that of George
Clark. (Note John T. also in 1st paragraph above).
I was especially glad Mavis including some info on spouses of the children
of Emanuel. I tried to locate the Henry Berry who married Nancy. My prime
candidate was Henry T. Berry b. March 9, 1845 d. April 3, 1914. My notes
must be incomplete though. I had his first wife listed as Amanda Greenwood
and a later wife listed as Aurie George. Surely I have missed out on one
of his wives because I have that his daughter b. ca. 1872 was named Nannie
Jackson Berry. It would make sense that she would have been named for her
mother. If anyone can straighten me out on this, please do.
I think it was the sister of Henry T. Berry, Joannah Berry, who married
Laban E. Jackson b. December 20, 1838, d. July 12, 1909. I am guessing
that this is the son of Emanuel Jackson.
