Hello Terry,
Thanks so much for responding. Could you look and see if there are any
Ayres men who fathered illegitimate children in 1846 or even during the few
years before that (just in case I have his birth year wrong)? Maybe the
child was given Ayres as a surname, although I realize the mother may have
given him her own surname.
