Hi, Melissa, RUTH Calhoun DURANT is direct line ancestor, and we know little
about her - will appreciate any bits of info, and glad to share what we can.
Please reply on any DURANTS of Marion and Dillon or environs. Have never
located name of first husband by whom she had son JAMES C. BELLUNE.( have
thought one John a possible?) And no proof of which GEORGE DURANT was her
2nd husband by whom she had son FRANCIS Belleune DURANT. (Our line) Have
info she was 2nd wife of each husband, and there were older children by first
wives of both husbands. Is listed as head of household, "Ruthie" Durant, in
some censuses . Also found her name on an early map showing "Ruth Durant's
ferry", and I've read she actively operated ferry in 1816 and son James
Bellune is named operator in 1817.
Also need her parents - James C Calhoun's Williamsburgh 1808 Will
refers to sister Ruth Durant, also sisters Ann Brown and Mary Rogers . We
collected a number of items from individuals, the courthouse and library, on
visits to Marion etc in the 80's and early 90s on various connections of
Ruth, but could never put the pieces in place, and all our old collections
are now stored in another residence. Have been dabbling with computer
research in recent months, which promises much but poor computer skill and
shortage of time have prevented much accomplishment!
