Subject: [SCMARION-L] Marion County Deed Books?
Date: Sun, 5 Jan 2003 14:20:01 -0500
Would anyone with a copy of the Marion County Deed Books be willing to do a
lookup for me?
I'm trying to verify, if possible, when George Cox first appeared in the
Marion County area. According to his obituary, published in the SC
Temperance Advocate 21 September 1843, he died 7 Sept 1843 in Marion County,
came to SC during the Revolution in the service of Gen. Green, and was a
native of Virginia.
According to Marion Co. equity rolls (#46) George Cox died possessed of 5427
acres of land in Marion District, some on Jeffries Creek and some on Lynches
Creek. Most of it had been granted to earlier settlers, and I'm hoping
there will be records of how he obtained the land.
I have some information on the descendants of George that I'm willing to
share - still looking for his ancestors and the identity of his first wife.
Thanks!
Donali
