MARION -- Mr. Sparkie Douglas Demery, 69, widower of Jo Ann Owens Demery, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Jack Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Reddy Creek Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.



Mr. Demery was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Marion County, a son of the late Ben and Leila Demery. Mr. Demery was a retired accountant and was a member of Ariel Baptist Church,



Surviving Mr. Demery are five sisters, Mae Belle Demery Byrd of Marion, Lula Mae Demery Grice of Marion, Louise Demery Lane and her husband Jimmy of Marion, Mildred Demery of Columbia and Bettye Demery Thompson and her husband Al of Greensboro, N.C.; and several loving nieces and nephews.



Mr. Demery was predeceased by a brother, Ben Norton Demery.



Memorials may be made to Ariel Baptist Church, 3803 S. Hwy. 501, Mullins, S.C. 29574 or to the charity of one's choice.



Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.
