The Watson Brothers of Antioch
Many years ago the Antioch church here had two outstanding members, Samuel
and William Watson. Samuel Watson was a very successful business man and he
used his business ability to help his church as a deacon, in building a handsome
house of worship for that day and time, and in securing a pastor. Samuel
Watson was a great leader. His brother William was of a different temperament.
As superintendent of the Sunday School and leader of the choir, he was known
and loved. Both brothers were noted for their lavish hospitality, strangers
were always welcomed at their church and the home of these two hospitable
brothers ever open to them. The bodies of these two sleep behind the church they
served so well in life and today Samuel Watson's granddaughter, Miss Lila Watson,
is on the firing line as a missionary to China and William Watson's grandson,
Lawton Watson, is on the firing line as a missionary to Brazil. "Lives of
great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime and departing leave behind
us foot-prints on the sands of time"
