Powell Sr., Joseph Leslie



LATTA/MARION -- Joseph Leslie Powell Sr. died Sunday, July 13, 2003, after
an illness. He was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Hartsville, a son of the late
Frederick L. and May P. Powell.

A veteran of World War II, he was active in his community, serving for many
years as treasurer of Latta United Methodist Church, treasurer of Latta
Rotary Club and as a member of the Dillon County School Board of Education.



Mr. Powell was a 1949 graduate of Clemson University. He served as an IPTAY
representative of which he was a member of for 35 years.



Surviving are sons, Joseph L. (Susie) Powell Jr. of Marion, Robert E.
(Celia) Powell of Murrells Inlet, and a daughter, Vivian "Bibi" P. (Mac)
Atkins of Chapin; grandchildren, Mac T. (Carmen) Atkins of Columbia, J. Dow
Atkins of Chapin, Leslie Ann Powell, Joseph T. Powell and James E. Powell,
all of Marion, J. Burton Powell, R. Lawton Powell and Anne Brookes Powell of
Murrells Inlet; and a brother, Charles H. Powell of Hartsville.



He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Atkins Powell of Latta.



Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Magnolia Cemetery, Latta.

Railroad Ave., Latta, SC 29565.
