John,

It was good to receive your e-mail about your great-grandmother, Elizabeth=20
Bodiford. Ifeel we probably have a connection.

I have been looking for information for about three years about my=20
great-great-great-grandfather. I was told my a great aunt that his name was=
=20
William Crowley and from some other information I came up with the name=20
William Charlie Crowley. This same aunt told me that his wife=E2=80=99s nam=
e was=20
Ellen Bodiford.

>From census records, I learned that Ellen was born around 1830, her sister,=20
Ann, was born around 1834, their brother, Duncan, about 1840 and Margaret A.=
=20
about 1848. From these same census records, I assumed their mother=E2=80=
=99s name=20
was Margaret, born about 1800. I kept running across the name Alexander=20
Bodiford but was not sure who he was. It seems like he lived next door to=20
Ellen's family.

Ellen Crowley was buried at Hebron Cemetery (in Marlboro County) but I have=20
never been able to find a burial location for her husband. I was also told=20
by this same great aunt that William was killed at Massanass (I am sure I=20
have spelled this wrong) during the Civil War. But the book, History of=20
Marlboro County, by J.A.W. Thomas does not show him dying during the war but=
=20
later.

Most of this I am writing to you without checking back on my records - I fee=
l=20
that there is a connection. It was not unusual for 2 brothers from one=20
family to marry 2 sisters from another family.

I have the names of William (?) and Ellen=E2=80=99s children. They were, Ja=
mes,=20
Mary, Wesley and David. I am descended from James, I know the descendants o=
f=20
Mary (most of them still live in Marlboro) and I know some of Wesley=E2=80=
=99s=20
family. I do not know anything about David.

Elizabeth Bodiford sounds familiar to me also. Do you have any more=20
information? Do you know who John R. Crowley=E2=80=99s parents were? =20

As soon as I have time, I will look back in my census records and etc. and=20
see if I can find their names. I am certainly interested in any other=20
information you can share. My 84 year old father died a few months ago and=20=
I=20
have also been sick so I have not been researching much lately but I hope to=
=20
soon start doing more - I do enjoy it.

Thank you,
Bonnie Crowley Freeman
Marlboro County
