Subject: [SCMARLBO-L] Rasco/Rascoe/Roscoe families of Marlboro County
Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 11:22:51 EST

I am researching the Rasco/Rascoe/Roscoe families of Marlboro County South
Carolina. The first evidence of them in the area was the 1790 census of the
Cheraw District in which the households of James and John Rasgo were
enumerated. My the 1800 census the household of Alexander Rasco was added to
Jame and John. Some of the descendant of these families moved away to such
places as Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, and Texas. Other remained in the
Marlboro/Chesterfield county areas and still have descendants living there to
this day. Most of them now use the spelling ROSCOE as their sur-name. This
form of the spelling seem to have began with the South Carolina branches of
the family just after the War Between the States.

I am especially interested in locating documentation that will help me
identify the names of the spouses and children of the Rascoe/Roscoe families
living in Marlboro and Chesterfield Counties prior to the 1850 census as well
as the maiden sur-names of the female spouses of the Rascoe/Roscoe families
listed in the censuses after 1850.

I have a rather large collection of material on these families that I have
accumulated over the past thirty years of research but I still have several
gaps that needs filling in. I would be happy to exchange data with anyone
interested in the Rascoe or Roscoe families and their collateral links.
