John Rascoe was born sometimes between 1794 and 1805 depending on which
census age you can believe. Some descendants think he was born in 1796. He
was either the son of the John Rascoe who was in Marlboro County by 1790 or
the Alexander Rascoe who was in Marlboro County by 1800. Their is some
unproven speculation based on the 1840 census that he was first married to
Mindu and was the father of Oliver, Riley, Rachel, and possibly other over in
Chesterfield County. He was the husband of Lucinda or Lucy Clark who may have
been his second wife. If the speculation about him being the husband of Mindu
is correct, then he was not legally maried to Lucy as divorce was illegal in
South Carolina at that time. No actual marriage records have been found
because South Carolina did not require the counties to keep marriage records
at that time. The marriage of John and lucy is based on private records of
their descendants and the1850 census. The children of John Rascoe and Lucy
Clark were:
1. Mary Ann Rascoe born about 1833. Married John Dunn.
2. John R. Rascoe born about 1836. Married Anna Stanton.
3. Harris Rascoe born about 1838. Died Jan. 5, 1862. Married Martha Clark.
4. George Washington Rascoe born July 27, 1840, died April 23, 1921. Md. 1st.
Harriet Caulder. Md. 2nd Jane Adams.
5. Elizabeth Jane Rascoe born about 1842-44. Married Murry Chavis.

Looking for additions and corrections.

James R. Rasco
