1850 census Richmond County N.C.
1860 census Richmond County N.C.
1870 census Richmond County N.C.
Died and left will in Richmond County
Was married but apparently no children.
All of the above with the exceptions of Aquilla had large families and there
are hundreds of descendant across the country. I am in communication with
several descendant from each of these. In addition to their ancestor being
born in South Carolina in the very early 1800's they sem to have the same
migration path south and west. None of them knows the parents of their
ancestor or how and if their ancestor is related to any of these others.
From the 1790 through the 1820 censuses of South Carolina the only Rascos
found in the State of South Carolina is in Marlboro County with one exception
of a Delilah Rasco who appears as head of her household in Chesterfield
County in 1810. She does not appear in any other censuses. The three names
for Rascos in Marlboro County between 1790 and 1820 were JAMES RASCO, JOHN
RASCO, and
ALEXANDER RASCO. It appears that James is the elder and that John and
Alexander are probably his sons. James the elder seem to have disappeared
from Marlboro County or else died prior to 1810. There is another James Rasco
there but he is much younger. John Rasco purchased 50 acres of land on
Crooked Creek near Brightsville 7 Nov. 1805. John Raco sold that same 50
acres to Charles Bright 3 August 1809. John Rasco the elder seems to
disappear from Marlboro County after 1810 and a younger John Rasco appears in
later censuses. Alexander Rasco is listed on the 1800, 1810, and 1820
censuses of Marlboro County but is not on futher censuses. In the 1830 census
Rachel Rasco appears as a head of household and there is a John Rasco as well
as a Purrington Rasco. Purrington Rasco is most likely a son of Alexander
Rasco. John could be a son of the original John Rasco or he could be a
brother of Purrington Rasco. I believe but have not proven that the Daniel
Rasco that was in Hickman County Kentucky in the 1830's was a son of
Alexander Rasco. It is very possible that all of the rest of the above list
with the exception of John Rasco were son of Alexander as well.
I know of other Roscoe in Marlboro County in the early 1900's that migrated
to Richmond, Cumberland, Forsyth Counties N.C. and Charleston South Carolina.
After the 1810 census no Rasco or Roscoe appear on the censuses of
Chesterfield County untill the 1850 census when an Oliver and a Riley Rascow
appears. During the War Between the States these lines of the Rasco family
changed their name to Roscoe. Joseph Franklin Roscoe shows up in the 1870
census of Chesterfield County. Most of the Roscoe living in or near
Chesterfield County today are descendant of these Roscoes. There was a John
Ruscoe from New York who settled in Anson County in 1840. Some of his
children moved into Chesterfield County in the 1870's and changed their name
to Roscoe so unless there is some connection I have not found, there are at
least two separate families of Roscoes in Chesterfield County and possibly
three or even four.
