In MEDICINE IN MARLBORO COUNTY by Suzanne Linder, page 113, it states

JESSIE S. HAIRE
"Born in 1816 in upper Marlboro, Dr. Haire was generally known as a root
doctor. He prepared medicines from various local herbs. His son, Hassie S.
Haire (1883-1956), followed the same profession. They must have had a
flourishing practice as the Pee Dee Advocate of October 14, 1914, reported,
"Dr. Hair (sic) has so many customers now that himself and his son cannot
supply them." Dr. Jessie Haire died March 29, 1912, at the age of
ninety-six."
