Hi y'all,
For those of you with Confederate ancestors from the Pee Dee area,
or who are just plain interested in local history, you should know about
a new book by one of our fellow researchers, Jerry Kendall:
"Confederate Burials, Marlboro, South Carolina"
I recently received a copy and I have to tell you, it's a jewel. There
are wonderful and unexpected surprises within! In addition to
the data indicated by the book title, there are photographs of homes
and cemeteries (tombstones too, of course); a map showing Marlboro
cemetery locations; driving directions to Marlboro cemeteries; some
interesting genealogies; and bits of local history, including a chapter
on the mystery of the cast-iron coffin (this one dates from 1939).
But I digress...
Mr. Kendall has kindly given me permission to put the name
index online. To see if your ancestor is listed, visit:
<http://www.rootsweb.com/~scmarlbo/military/confedburialsindex.htm>
(Note: my scanner-OCR combo is not working so I've had to do a
"modified" index due to the sheer number of entries to be retyped.
All names are listed but only a few page references are shown. :(
Sorry 'bout dat, hope it doesn't confuse anyone.)
Cheers,
Victoria
