Gail,
I have an unusual question.
Cicero C. Smith lived near my Woodalls and Cannons near Wolf Creek Church in Rabun Co. GA on the 1880 census. [see below] Is that the same family you are talking about?
Have you heard of a "Cobb Smith"? And could that Cicero C. Smith be the same person?

Subject: [SCOCONEE] Oscar Smith b. 3/13/1889 Rabun Co., Ga d. 12/1/1905 Oconee Co., SC
Recently I saw an obituary online (Anderson Independent Mail) for an Oscar
"Junior" Smith, Jr. born Feb. 11, 1929 died Oct. 30, 2003. This prompted me to
think about my Great Uncle Oscar and how little I have found out about him.
Oscar Smith son of Calvin Cicero and Elizabeth Justus Smith. Brother of
Russell Clinton Smith of Long Creek, Oconee Co., SC. (my Grandfather) Oscar's
other siblings were: Miles, Della, Henry, Mary Jane (Sis), Amanda Selina,
Florinda C., Ellander, John Lewis. Oscar was the youngest.
Oral family history told of a story that my Grandfather Russell Smith bailed
him out of jail in 1913 because he had Typhoid Fever and he wasn't being taken
care of properly and shortly thereafter Oscar died. This information was
noted and I continued on thinking I would check into and verify the info later.
Recently my Aunt showed me a Memorandum Book belonging to her Grandmother
Elizabeth Justus Smith - Oscar's Mother. In this book she lists that Oscar was
born March 13, 1889 and died Dec. 1, 1905. She also lists his first name as
being Rolin/Roling (it was hard to read if there was a "g" or not).
Meanwhile, I noticed an Oscar L. Smith buried at Mountain View Cemetery b.
3/5/1875 and d. 2/14/1928
and
Oscar Smith buried with Pearl at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church b. 1/27/1892 d.
10/10/1961. This appears to be the father of the Oscar Smith that has just
passed away 10/30/2003. I believe that to be true because the obituary lists
his parents as Oscar and Pearl Anna Pressley Smith and they are buried at
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery as well.
Can anyone give me any direction on my Great Uncle Oscar. I have a picture
of him and very little else.
