Have you looked at Ray A Jones book "Ulster Pedigrees"?

It lists Mary Orr b. 1694 d. 1719 m. William Martin of Killynure, Co. Down.
They had 7 children, Robert (a physician), m. 1) Mary Orr and 2) Margaret
McAlpin, John m. Martha Kinnear, William Jr m. Eleanor McGowan, Hugh m. 1)
Lilias Orr, 2) Margaret Watson and 3) Mary Robb, Samuel E. m Martha Barr,
Mary m. Arthur Maxwell, and Agnes (Nancy) m Archibald Gray. Births were
probably between 1704 and 1719 (Mary Orr probably died in childbirth - only
25 years old).

Several of their grandchildren went to the USA.
Robert's sons - Nathaniel and Robert Jr.
John's son - William m. Rebecca Shaw
Samuel's sons - Robert, James and John m. Mary Dunlop
Unfortunately it does not say where in the USA. Passenger lists of ships
might help.

Birth dates not given for these grandchildren, but given the dates of their
parent's births one can estimate that they were born between (earliest) 1730
and (latest) 1745. So any of these men could have been the father of your
John Martin. Do any of these names ring a bell? Only two were married before
they left, so if you know the names of John's parents that might help.

I don't if this helps, but the large number of Martins who went to USA about
the correct time tickled my mind.

Good hunting,
Michael Harper

Subject: [SCOT-DNA] A Martin DNA Profile 1600-2004

Our family oral history contains hints that our Martin ancestors were Scots
who migrated to Northern Ireland, perhaps in the 1600s, then migrated to
southeastern Pennsylvania, U.S.A. in the early to mid 1700s. They lived
near other families of known Scots-Irish heritage and intermarried with
them.
The first record of the family in the U.S. that has been identified thus far
is John Martin born about 1774 in "Little" York County, Pennsylvania. John
was reported to have been "...born...of Irish parents..." which is
consistent with the family oral history of the migration from Scotland.
Despite diligent searching, I have been unable to learn the names of John
Martin's immigrant parents or his siblings. My hope is that someone will
find my DNA profile a close match to theirs and that we might collaborate on
further family research. I will be glad to share what I've learned.

-Bill Martin Denver, Colorado, U.S.A.
