To my knowledge R1a is a typical haplogroup for Eastern Europe - apparently all the Slavs have that haplogroup. It occurs however to an extent in the British isles and it may also have a connection with part of the Vikings but it may have been taken there back (mixed "marriages") after the Viking invasions ... Definitely it is not a haplogroup of the "Celtic" type since it originated in the ancient Russian steppes ... Greg

haplogroup is r1a (not snp tested though). Should I
pass on his #'s for the dna study? (right now we only
have 12 waiting on the other #'s).
and does anyone know if r1a is a typical scottish
type?
