Max:
Let me know on the cost/benefit ratio. I'd be happy to co-sponsor with
you as well.. There is an old song: "love changes everything". In this
Arena sometimes a co-sponsor can also change the ratio of cost/benefit.
It would benefit our group to be able to get more of the Scottish
ancestors into our DNA test results and share paper trails.
Thanks
Warmest Regards

Dear John,
Thank you for the detailed e-mail.
Family Tree DNA decided that it will be present at The Gathering 2009, and
we are currently in contact with the organizers
negotiating sponsorship options. If cost/benefit of sponsorship is too high,
we will have a tent, without being sponsors.
We want to see if, as sponsors, or even if just as participants, we can have
at least one presentation on each day.
I will keep ya'll posted on the progress of this matter.
We very much appreciate your support and interest!!
E-mail me anytime!

Thanks for some really excellent ideas.
Some Comments and Options:
A: I've copied Max on this to see if he has interest in supporting a tent
there. I'll be glad to assist in supporting ( funding) a DNA tent as
well.
The Event is only 2 days ( July 25 & 26) so it's not a long event.
B: FTDNA allows a person to belong to two groups so I normally recommend
that someone belongs to the Scottish DNA group (of course) and their
Surname, Clan, (or Family) and Scottish DNA group. This should probably
be also emphasized more strongly on our web site as well. This would be
3 groups to be allowed to join ( Max > can you check on this for me
please)
C: I'd be pleased to add the various Clan contacts ( web sites, contact
info, etc)
on our brochure and will add to our web site at :
www.scottishdna.net .
http://www.scottishdna.net/families.html
http://www.scottishdna.net/c-dna.html
http://www.scottishdna.net/Scottish-brochure.pdf
I can deliver those customized brochures to the Clan
and Family tents at the Gathering for their own distribution as well.
D: We have the brochure on our web site so everyone can download it from
there and stamp their contact info on as well or attach a business card
etc
on the brochure. I do see a couple of things that currently need updated
and will have that done in the next few weeks again. This is a constant
chore to keep web sites current :-)
Lauren: Could you please look at our brochure again and see what needs be
updated. BTW: Lauren is an expert on graphics and does first class work so
if a Clan or Family would like some other brochures etc then she is your
best
bet for high quality work.
Warmest Regards

I contacted several parties who might be involved to learn if there
will be a DNA testing tent at the Edinburgh Scottish Clan Gathering in
July, including The Gathering organizers and DNA test companies within
Scotland, the almost universal response was that it was not settled
yet, but appeared doubtful there would be a specific DNA tent.
It is pretty clear that the best option for those of us who are in
Family Tree DNA projects and searching for DNA matches in Scotland is
to have FTDNA present at the event. The committee may be influenced if
they see a large interest in this occurrence expressed in e-mails to
the event. The most logical 'local' company they would approach does
not have any public database or a way for others to contact their DNA
test customers. Emails from those in Scotland are probably most
influential, but a showing of strong support for a FTDNA tent at the
event would support our ancestral search. Friendly e-mails to the
individual Clan/Family/House organizers requesting they have brochures
available at their tents should be influential in supporting our
ancestral search as well.
The link below shows the Clans/Families/Houses who will have tents at
The Gathering, in case anyone else wants to contact their surname's
Clan event organizers and encourage them to have DNA test brochures at
their tents. You can contact the Clan organizers, as well as the The
Gathering organizers through The Gathering Info e-mail link below or on
their website.

I'll have brochures for anyone else is going to be there and would like
some brochures for their clan Tent as well.
Please let me know so I can have enough and could maybe even
have it tailored for your specific Clan ( or Family).
