I rarely post, only read, but I have to ask: how does the length of an
email inconvenience anybody? You don't have to read it all every time,
for heaven's sake!!
I find that all of these lists can be hard to follow because people have
chopped TOO MUCH out of what they are replying to and I don't understand
what they are talking about. I subscribe to dozens of these, as do
probably many of you.
I am on dial up and if I don't find long emails a problem how can
anybody else? It's not as if there are huge media attachments or
something. Now THAT would be a problem!
I am sure there is a valid reason why we should not include the previous
commentary to which we are replying, I would just like to know what it is.
If we remove the previous material in a thread at work, we get totally
chewed out by people. "What the heck are you talking about?" is the
thought, and then they hit DELETE.
I had someone from one of these lists complain to me once about
"including too much" of the thread in my replies, AS IF I had made a
point of doing so. When in fact it actually takes action to remove
stuff. You don't make a choice to include it, if you include stuff, you
are just being oblivious.
When it comes to email ettiquette, I will always maintain that pointing
out to a person what their email sins are, and asking them to stop, is
BY FAR the biggest breach of email ettiquette that there is. It hurts
their feelings. It's like a slap in the face. None of the sins you can
criticize someone for are like a slap in the face, except for that. You
should really just keep it to yourself.
Anyway, I will never convince the rest of the world of that, so please
just explain why we have to clean up our replies ... As I am about to do
... apologies to anybody who can't figure out what I am responding to!!!
:-)
Sandy
