OK- I have received immediate, and positive, responses to my offer so
will begin transcribing. I have written it as it is written in the book
- spellings too. Any words that were particularly difficult to read
will be in brackets - especially place names.
The handwriting is particularly poor in places.

This is the family record kept by Emma GRIFFITHS, b. SCOTT, and later
owned by her daughter Susan Augusta PIPON, born GRIFFITHS on 3lst Dec.
l842 at Brighton, and subsequently another daughter Ellen.

SCOTT was born on l8th October l809 and baptised at St. Botolph without
Aldersgate, London, on l3th November that same year. Any references to
"my father/mother" are, therefore, Emma's own.

Colonel William SCOTT of the 6th Regt. Company married (Bostowen?
LANE/CANE) daughter of Colonel (LANE/CANE) also Company 6th Regt. Their

My mother Susanna SMITH was born l3th March l780. My dear father Hugh
Maurice SCOTT was born at Coventry lst March l779. Married 23rd
February l807 at St. Botolph without Aldersgate, London. HMS died at
Bombay 8th October l827 and S.S. in Douglas, Isle of Man, 25th September
l862.

One child, Emma SCOTT born l8th October l809. Baptised at St. Botolph
without Aldersgate, London. (Emma's family is to be found on the
GRIFFITHS web-site given at the beginning).

That's all for now...an account of the death of Lieut. Colonel Hgh
Maurice SCOTT to follow.
