Hi all:
With research and especially the help of Ray Scribner (originally of ME, now
in IN), my line is above. My great grandfather was born in ME, came to MI
(very short time), homesteaded in MN, and late 1870s to Clinton, IA, where
he lived the rest of his life.

The immigrant: John Scriven, ch. 27 Oct 1623, Weem, Shropshire
John Scriven/Scribner, b. 1657, Dover, NH
Edward Scribner, b. ca 1695, Exeter, NH
Edward Scribner, b. 11 Oct 1721, Exter, NH
Edward Scribner, b. 11 Oct 1764 Waterboro, ME
Daniel Scribner, b. 18 Oct 802, Otisfield, ME
Edward Eaton Scribner, b. 29 Aug 1830, Otisfield, ME (my gr. grandfather)
Herbert Alllan Scribner, b. 21 Nov 1862, St. Clair Co, MI
Lewis Frederick Scribner, b. 10 Apr 1897, Clinton, IA (my father)
moved to Detroit after service in Navy, WWI

In 1988 I attended a Scribner reunion in New Albany, IN, and there were only
a few of us from the above line. Without checking, there were several
Scribners who were early settlers in New Albany (right across the Ohio River
from Louisville, KY)

I also seem to remember that there were early Scribners from CT, and I think
that is the line which includes the Scribner of famous Scribner publishing
company, not mine.

My records (nearly 25 year collection) are in quite a mess right now, but
I'll try to find time to check what I have on other Scribner
lines---possibly from Virginia originally???

Oh, Thomas Scriven, ch. 16 Apr 1584 in Frodesley, Shropshire, Eng, d. 21 Jan
16443/44, was the father of John at the top of my list. Ray found this and
even earlier generations from the records at the Allen County Library in
Fort Wayne, IN.

It appears I am related to the other three listers who gave some info on
their ancestors.
