Subject: [SC] Genalogy.Com / BEARD search
Date: Thu, 5 Jul 2001 12:31:10 -0400
I was searching Genealogy.Com and it listed a B.P. BEARD as
being on the Immigration List 1500-1900.
I almost re-subscribed to Genealogy.Com just to get the
info. But instead I went to the library.
I know it was referring to a huge set of books of
Immigration Records. I went through the many volumnes
(twice). NO, reference to "B.P. BEARD". ...and I'm still
hoping it was an oversight on my part.
I had been so excited and anxious when I thought that my
B.P. BEARD had been FOUND! That he had an Immigration
record... and then I ended with suspicions about
Genealogy.Com.
My thoughts are that their search engine looked for "B",
"P", and "BEARD"... and found all three. The search result
was misleading.
I did however make a request of the Charleston Cnty. Library
to purchase a copy of CD containing the Immigration Records.
They were happy to do so, and please to find out that the
information was now on CD. They themselves search through
the set of books quite frequently. So, I'm a patient
woman... <<G>>
I can wait for the library to order their copy. The CD seems
like a great value (for those with the money to spend). I
would just have preferred a better search process. Perhaps
the CD does a better job than the Genealogy.Com site
(hopefully). Some old search engines would look for complete
names in quotation marks " " .
Any Suggestions from the Geniuses of Geneaolgy?
My suggestion... Take Care ~
and Keep Searching! with a Smile ~
