Yes and no. I was just over at the Charleston Library last weekend and all
antebellum marriages and death records are listed by the announcement in the
local paper or by specific church records. Marriage, birth and death records
are largely a 20th century phenomenon. In South Carolina, I don't think any
of them were required till 1915.

So if someone were searching hi and lo for a marriage prior to that date or
around that time it would be in Charleston SC correct?
