I am seeking information on my GGfather, ROBERT WYLIE SAMMONS, who was =
born in 1830 (est) and died in 18612 (est). The location of his birth =
and death are unknown however I have reason to suspect that they were in =
SC.
RWS married ELIZABETH THOMAS, the daughter of John Thomas of Darlington =
SC in 1859 (est) and died in 1861 (est). ET was born on 8/22/1861 in =
South Carolina.
I have a note in some old family records that my Gfather JOHN HANSEL =
SAMMONS and his brother JAMES WYLIE SAMMONS wre born in Spartanburg, =
District 96, SC. JHS was born on 11/21/1859 and JWS was born on =
6/28/1861.
Their parents, RWS and ETS apparently died shortly after James birth and =
the boys were raised by Elizabeth's brother JOHN W THOMAS in Darlington, =
SC. JT Brought the JHS and RWS to TX in the fall of 1869. The party =
consisted of 7 adults and 14 children and travelled from Charleston, SC =
to Galveston, TX by ship.
The names Hansel and Wylie are indicative of a Sussex County, VA and a =
Darlington, SC connection but as of yet I have not been able to make any =
connection. My line stops at ROBERT WYLIE SAMMONS. =20
Any help or research direction will be appreciated. =20
