My grandmother was Sarah Susan "Sallie" Griffin - her father was Alexander Griffin whose father was John Griffin - I know his wife's first name was Sarah. Have been doing some research on this part of my family line recently. My grandfather had a brother named Albert and Robert (who migrated to Texas) and the other children I know of are Tanner and Tessie.

I was told that he served in the Civil War - was a farrier in the Army of Northern VA under R.E. Lee and was at Appomattox when Lee surrendered to Grant. Have a book "The Appomattox Paroles" that lists several John Griffin's but don't really know if this is the John related to me.

Does this look like who you are looking for - if so, do you have any other info you could share?
