I am new to the list and during two weeks off sick am doing a major blitz on
my family tree. My own GEDDIE forebears came from Speyside, but some GEDDIE
contacts in the US are desparately seeking the birth places of:
James Donald GEDDIE born c. 1750
Catherine Isabella McPHAIL born c. 1760
They were said to have travelled on the same, unnamed ship, from an unnamed
port (in Scotland?) to the US in 1772 and may have married in 1881 in North
Carolina where they settled. Both were said to have travelled with siblings,
James' not named, and Catherine with brothers Dougald and Daniel McPHAIL.
Problems exist:
Some records suggest that James was named James Daniel GEDDIE, but North
Carolina records now seem to suggest James Donald is correct. Other records
suggest that Catherine was only named Isabella McPHAIL, but again North
Carolina records now seem to suggest that Catherine Isabella is correct. The
North Carolina records suggest the families travelled to the US from Islay,
Jura, Mull - or anywhere in Argyll. Does anyone have any links to, or
information on the family, which might assist my "American cousins"?
